Difference Between Almond Joy and Mounds

Almond Joy vs. Mounds

Almond Joy and Mounds are two of the most popular and common candy bars that are created by Hershey’s and Nestle. There are only a few distinct differences between the two popular candy bars, as both are produced by the same company and both are similar in ingredients. Peter Paul Manufacturing Company is responsible for having created both candy bars, and now since Peter Paul was purchased by Hershey they remain under the same brand. They both are made with coconut and chocolate and actually share the same wrapper, the only difference being the color and the actual name of the candy. Hershey’s is responsible for creating other products like York peppermint patties, Milk Duds, Cadbury eggs, and even Reese’s peanut butter cups.

Mounds can be found at any retailer that sells name brand candy in a red and white wrapper. The package and the logo are similar and in the same print as the Almond Joy candy bar. On the inside of the wrapper is a candy bar that is created from coconut filling that is dipped and covered in dark chocolate. In the 1970s the Peter Paul Manufacturing Company sold the candy bar under the slogan ‘Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t.’ Mounds were originally created in the 1920s and were sold for only a few pennies, a few years later they were changed and sold two pieces for the same price. It was not until after World War II that the price doubled for one candy bar. Today, mounds can be found as original candy bars selling for less than a dollar each bar.

Almond Joy candy bars were created as a sister candy bar for Mounds in 1946 by the Peter Paul Manufacturing Company. Almond joys are coconut on the inside and have almonds placed atop the coconut before they are dipped in milk chocolate. Just like the Mounds bar they have two pieces of candy inside each package. The package is white and blue and has the same logo as Mounds, only now it is Almond Joy.
Both Almond joy and Mounds are very similar and they are one of America’s favorite candies available for sale.
