Difference Between Beer and Whiskey

Beer vs Whiskey

You might have heard that whiskey makes you frisky, and so beer makes you queer might be true as well. The major differences between beer and whiskey are the percentage of alcohol, price, color, taste and appearance. There is also a difference in their bottles, corks and labels.

Eleven ounces of beer contains five percent alcohol, compared to forty milliliters of whiskey that contains forty percent alcohol. Whiskey, when compared to beer, is dangerous to one’s health and can cause heart conditions, whereas according to some doctors beer has a heart protecting compound in it, called flavonoids. But they both should be used in moderation.

Whiskey is similar to a beer that has been distilled and contains no hops. Whiskey and beer are both made from starchy grains, such as wheat, barley, rye, millet, oats and corns. For example, single malt whiskey is made from barley and distilled at a single distillery, whereas bourbon or American whiskey is fifty one percent corn, besides other ingredients.

Whiskey is clear in color when distilled and before it is stored in wooden casks for the ageing process. This is where it gets its brown color. Many manufacturers of cheaper brands add caramel or molasses to add the artificial brown color to it.

Beer not only contains alcohol, but is also composed of significant nutrients – potassium, biotin, B vitamins etc. The ingredients of beer are undergoing scientific evaluations to evaluate the number of health benefits and risks involved when drinking beer. Whiskey is known to act as a blood thinner, and differs in quality, base product and amount of alcohol.

It is believed that an adequate amount of whiskey is good for older people who have cardiac problems, whereas beer has vitamin B, and is considered to relieve menstrual cramps as well as to help lower cholesterol levels.

Whisky is much stronger than beer as it is a spirit, and clearly more harmful. It contains ethanol, which can cause cancers because it is a highly concentrated element present in whiskey.

1. Beer is cheaper and contains less alcohol when compared to whiskey.
2. Whiskey contains highly concentrated ethanol that could causes cancers.
3. Beer has nutrients such as B vitamins, potassium, biotin etc., and can relieve menstrual cramps and lower cholesterol levels.
