Difference Between Blog and Website

The main difference between blog and website is that the content of a blog updates regularly while the content of a website is static and does not change regularly.

The World Wide Web (WWW) is the information space for documents and various web resources. It has improved information exchange and interaction among the users to great extent. The two terms blog and website are used interchangeably but they have a difference.  The content of a blog changes frequently. The most recent posts appear at the top of the blog. It has a reverse chronological order, from latest to the oldest. On the other hand, a website is more formal and professional than a blog. Its content does not change usually. However, sometimes, users refer to a blog as a website.

What is a Blog

The word blog is derived from “web” and “log”. Blogs are easier to use and it is easier for the visitors to find what they are looking for. It helps to exchange ideas, thoughts, news and many more. The theme of the blog refers to the appearance. The blog owner can choose and apply text styles, images, backgrounds, and colors according to his choice to make it more presentable.  

A blog consists of four main sections. They are header, sidebars, footer, and body. The header section contains the title and the logo. The sidebars contain widgets, favorites and most visited content of the blog, recent activities and social media options. The footer exists in the bottom of the blog. This content does not change frequently.  It contains links to static pages such as About, Contact, etc.

The most important area of the blog is the body. It is the main content with posts. The reason for the visitors to come to the blog is the main content. The most recent pages are at the top of the blog. Therefore, when posting something new, that latest post appears at the top. Each post consists of a comment section for the visitor to add his ideas, thoughts or to provide feedback.  Overall, a blog is an excellent method to share information.

What is a Website

A website is a collection of web pages that are related to each other. They all are identified by a common domain name. Any individual, business organization, government or non-profitable organization can create and maintain a website. When the user visits a website, first it displays the home page. The visitor can go to the required pages by clicking on the links. The pages of the website are connected using hyperlinks.

There are various types of websites available on the world wide web. There are business websites that contain information about the company, the products, and the services they offer, methods of contacting the company, location information, vacancies and other related information. Another website type is e-commerce websites. They are similar to virtual stores that sell products and services. The visitors can view the products and make online transactions to purchase the products. Amazon.com, AliExpress.com are few examples for e-commerce websites.

Moreover, media sharing websites allow the visitors to share images, music, videos etc. Social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter allow the users to create profiles and connect with friends and keep in touch with each other. Furthermore, there are malicious websites that spread malware such as viruses, worms, and Trojan horses throughout the network and spyware that steal personal information of the users.

Difference Between Blog and Website

Definition

A blog is a web resource published on WWW that consist of discrete and informal diary-style entries called posts. A website is a collection of related web pages, including multimedia content, typically identified with a common domain name, and published on at least one web server.

Content Updates

The content of a blog is updated regularly. The content of a website is static and does not change regularly. This is the main difference between blog and website.

Type

A blog is informal but a website is more formal and professional.

Interactivity

The blogs allow the visitors to be more interactive than the websites.

Content

A blog contains informative and educational posts. A website content changes depending on the type of the website. E.g. – e-commerce websites are transactional.

Development

The Blogs are usually developed with Word press, Magneto etc. A website is developed using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Python, etc.

Conclusion

A visitor can go to a blog or website by entering the URL into the address bar of the web browser. The difference between blog and website is that the content of a blog updates regularly while the content of a website is static and does not change regularly.
